Questions we get asked
If yours is not here, ring the office or add it to your booking notes — you will get an answer from a plumber, not a script.
Prices and booking
Do you charge a call-out fee?
Not inside EG1 to EG5. You pay for the job, at the fixed price on our price list or the price we agree on the doorstep before we start. In EG6 and EG7 there is a fixed £35 travel charge, and we tell you on the phone.
What does the 12-month guarantee cover?
Our labour and every part we supply, for 12 months from the day of the job. If something we fitted fails, we come back and put it right at no charge. New boilers also carry the manufacturer warranty, usually 7 to 10 years.
Can I book a time online?
Yes. Pick the job, a day and a two-hour slot on the booking page and we confirm by text within one working hour. Emergencies should always ring — the phone is answered 24 hours.
How do I pay?
By card on the day, by bank transfer within 7 days, or on account for landlords and letting agents. We never ask for payment before the work is done, except a 20% deposit on bathrooms and new boilers.
Emergencies
How fast can you get to an emergency?
Day and night we average 45 minutes from the end of your call to the van at your kerb inside EG1–EG5. Villages take longer — we give you an honest time on the phone, not a hopeful one.
What should I do before you arrive?
Turn the water off at the stopcock — usually under the kitchen sink — and switch off the electrics on any circuit that is getting wet. Put a bowl under the drip and move anything valuable. We will talk you through it on the phone if you cannot find the stopcock.
Do you deal with gas leaks?
If you smell gas, leave the property and call the National Gas Emergency number first. They make it safe. Once the supply is capped we can trace and repair the fault, with a Gas Safe registered engineer.
Boilers and heating
How often should my boiler be serviced?
Once a year. Most manufacturer warranties require it, and landlords must have gas appliances checked every 12 months. Our service is £89 fixed and we send a reminder a month before it is due.
How long does a new boiler take to fit?
A like-for-like combi swap is one day. Converting a system or back boiler to a combi takes two to three days. You have heating and hot water back every evening unless we agree otherwise.
Do you install underfloor heating or heat pumps?
We install and service wet underfloor heating. Heat pumps we survey and quote with a certified partner firm, and our engineers do the plumbing side.
Drains
Whose drain is it — mine or the water company’s?
Usually the pipe inside your boundary serving only your home is yours; a shared pipe beyond it is the water company’s. A CCTV survey settles it, and we tell you before you pay for work that is not your responsibility.
Why does my drain keep blocking?
Repeat blockages are almost always a fault, not bad luck: a dip in the pipe, a displaced joint or roots. Jetting clears it, a camera finds why. We recommend a survey after the second blockage in a year.
Still not sure? Ask the engineer.
Ring the office between 8 and 6, or any time for an emergency.
